QPR Suicide Prevention Training teaches people without mental health backgrounds to recognize signs that someone may be considering suicide, establish a dialogue, and guide the person to seek professional help. It can be a critical tool to save lives – and it’s something that all veterinary professionals can learn to do.
Learning Objectives:
- Increase awareness of stigma and understand suicide as a public health issue
- Recognize someone who is at risk for suicide
- Question, Persuade, and Refer someone in a suicidal crisis
- Access local and national referral resources
Christy Newberry, PsyD

Christy is an embedded Licensed Psychologist for AUCVM, providing therapy and consultation services. She earned her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University, Chicago, a master’s in Clinical Psychology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and a master’s degree in Professional Psychology from Geneva College in Beaver Falls, PA. Christy incorporates warmth, empathy, and humor into her strengths-based, collaborative approach. Specific clinical interests include compassion fatigue, burnout, stress, anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, and trauma. Originally from southeast Tennessee, Christy enjoys coffee shops, spending time with her sister, friends, and her sweet rescue pup, Joy.
