Former CVM faculty member Horne ’59 passes away at 91
Former Auburn Vet Med faculty member Dr. Robert Dean “Bobby” Horne ’59 passed away on Aug. 31. He was 91 years old.
Visitation will be held Monday, Sept. 14, from 1-2:30 p.m. in the Parlor at Frederick-Dean Funeral Home in Opelika followed by a Chapel Service at 2:30 p.m.
Dr. Horne earned his veterinary degree from Auburn and became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) in 1969. He served as a professor in the college’s Department of Small Animal Surgery and Medicine from 1971 to 1995 and as chief of the Surgery Section from 1965 to 1980.
In 1995, Dr. Horne joined the Tuskegee University College of Veterinary Medicine faculty, serving as head of the Department of Clinical Sciences. He was a longtime member of the Alabama Veterinary Medical Association and earned the organization’s Distinguished Service Award in 2003.
